My Approach
My training in Humanistic Psychology entitled Leadership, Facilitation & Coaching gave me the opportunity to dive deep; not only into theories and models, but into the felt senses and the experiential, offering an opportunity to consolidate and build on my earlier years as a group trainer.
With a broad canvas of life experience upon which to draw, I am interested in not only empowering others to develop awareness, but to deepen our collective understanding of the power of story and how our individual stories contribute to a wider narrative.
What I bring is the human element, with many years experience of working with groups in various capacities,
I bring some understanding of the human condition, and through group coaching techniques, I can work to improve individual and group relationships.
I aim to lead with authenticity and integrity,
following what Mac Macartney from Embercombe calls,
'the twin trail of leadership ~ the inner path of self knowing
and the outer path of action in the world'.
I have been described as passionate, insightful, courageous and a systems thinker. I try to bring all of myself
to this facilitator role, "which can sometimes can means the clunky bits too".
Bringing together the hands of the maker,
the visual acuity of the artist,
the curiosity and heart of a humanistic psychology practitioner,
with the pragmatism, experience and understanding of events
and workshop design, production, and delivery.
I aim to work from a position of trauma-informed practice,
eco-psychology and my growing awareness of eco-somatics.
I am in interested in what we chose to reveal about ourselves, and what we chose to keep hidden, individually, collectively, culturally and institutionally. I am curious about power, individual and collective, how we use it, how we abuse it, consciously or otherwise. I am interested in conflict, how we create it, avoid it, engage with it and potentially resolve it. I am energised by considering the frames we put around things, what scenes we are setting and why?
These and other narratives we collectively create inform my work, combining courage and creativity to effect change by unpacking and examining the many elements of an issue by working interdisciplinarily.
I work with an embodied approach, uniting my experience through my 'walk and talk' work, and my own experience with bodywork. Weaving together the myriad strands of my experience that include my warmth, candour, courage to challenge, humour, and compassion. It is these qualities that I try to bring along with my straight talking style to all the groups I work with, aiming to shine a light in the dark corners,
"like life, it is a work in progress . . . "

The facilitator's job is to support everyone to do their best thinking, encouraging the exploration of ideas, the facilitator aims to ensure full participation, promote mutual understanding and cultivates shared responsibility.
As a skilled facilitator I aim to bring a watchful awareness of the process, to the many layers of reality in a human group
"To apprehend process, we have to move into a different state of being - one which is simultaneously inside and outside, participant and observer, analyst and artist."
Allan Kaplan
Exploring ideas, sharing thoughts, working within processes designed to help you and your group do your best thinking,
this is what facilitation is all about.
“The only way to maximize group creativity—to make the whole more than the sum of its parts—is to encourage a candid discussion of mistakes. In part, this is because the acceptance of error reduces cost. When you believe your flaws will be quickly corrected by the group, you're less worried about perfecting your contribution, which leads to a more candid conversation. We can only get it right when we talk about what we got wrong.”
Jonah Lehrer, Imagine: How Creativity Works

What I offer ~ Issues & Groups I work with
-
Work with groups in a coaching role in the natural environment. To this work I bring a strong grounded presence, listening skills, warmth, compassion and understanding. The 'walking and talking' model I have developed provides sanctuary and respite from the cultural norm of more, harder, faster, smarter . . . using a variety of contemplative tools and techniques that provide an experience that steps away from doing into being. Working with story & metaphor I offer my insight, intuition and awareness to draw out new perspectives, ultimately moving in to guided discussion to integrate new awareness and choices.
-
Any group gathering to share or discuss a particular topic that needs an external facilitator to hold boundaries of time, confidentiality and other agreed ground rules.
-
As a facilitator I can work with groups which are struggling to do a stated task and where underlying and unspoken process issues may need to be unpacked before the task can be effectively addressed.
-
Groups wanting to experience interdisciplinary workshops for personal and/or professional development
-
Work with groups as a Facilitator & Trainer of Educational Workshops ~ I can design & deliver a range of workshops in the field of personal and professional development, my particular specialism in this area is women's confidence, personally and professionally
-
Bespoke training for existing groups in facilitation and event design - offering packages to deliver better group experiences

TESTIMONIALS
"Rosalind is a skilled facilitator and workshop designer Her superpower is the design of interdisciplinary arts processes crafted to help participants make that deep dive into different parts of their psyche an easy ask; for example, working with a favourite childhood story. Accessing 'The Little Mermaid' enabled me to see a multitude of different facets of me as well as the context I live within. Reflecting back, that empowered me to take the best of each facet and then employ those strengths out in the world. This was gentle yet deeply potent work."

Lastly, my advice to anyone wanting to work with a facilitator
-
TOP TIP ~ Don't design the day yourself and then ask a facilitator to come and run it for you! This is the equivalent of hobbling a runner before a marathon, DON'T DO IT!
-
Begin a list of what it is you want to work on with your group aided by a facilitator. THEN ask your chosen facilitator to work with you on designing the program to best achieve your desired outcome.
-
A trained and experienced facilitator will be able to work with you to help you get the best out of your group, and your budget.
