On a website primarily dedicated to my work as an Interdisciplinary Practitioner what possible place has a page about 'commercial driving'? This was a question I have been intermittently wrestling with for sometime. Where I have arrived at is this . . . it has been, and continues to be a part of what I do on a regular basis, and, I LOVE IT!
From the barren, sometimes brutalist landscapes of industrial estates, to the narrow and twisting country lanes of the west country, it all has its own particular charm . . .
Offering up movement, exercise, fresh air, solitude, thinking time and obviously, travel.
Thus, I reached the conclusion, that here it must be, as an essential element that feeds my interdisciplinary practice. It is, and remains, a regular source of surprising adventure . . .
DRIVING!
I have worked intermittently as a freelance commercial driver since the mid 1990's.
I no longer collect or deliver goods, I simply deliver vehicles. Moving vehicles from point A to point B. Travelling around the country, primarily the west country, experiencing the seasons in all their glory as they appear through my windscreen . . . and of course, las I walk through the many and varied landscapes to collect or return home, enjoy unusual train journeys or quirky bus rides.
Time for podcasts, stories or favourite radio shows, it offers me thinking time and feeds my creativity in a myriad of unexpected ways.
It's a delight!
